Riders & local bike shops

Your bike. Your shop. Your community.

Dropping your bike off shouldn't mean losing track of it. Cycologist gives you the repair stage by stage, keeps a service history against each bike you own, and connects you to people riding the same model — all through the shop down the road, not a marketplace.

Launching on iOS. Android to follow.

Why we built it

The bike is only half of it

The shop that knows your bike is one of the best things about cycling. The part around it — the not knowing, the phone tag, the history nobody wrote down — is the part that wears people out.

How it goes on Cycologist

  • You can see the stage it's on without asking anyone
  • The shop updates the board once, and you both see it
  • The work stays attached to that bike, permanently
  • Bookings arrive as requests the shop accepts, not as interruptions
  • Threads are grouped by bike model, so the right people see them

How a repair usually goes

  • You drop the bike off and hear nothing for four days
  • You ring up to ask, and someone has to go and look
  • Nobody can remember when the chain was last replaced
  • The shop's board is a whiteboard, and the phone keeps interrupting it
  • Your questions about a specific model get lost in a forum of 400,000 people

Three things, joined up

Most of what makes cycling good is local. Cycologist is built around that rather than around a marketplace.

Your bike

Every bike you own, with its make, model and serial, and the full record of what's been done to it and when. Not a receipt in a drawer — a history you can actually look up.

Your shop

Book service, follow the repair through its stages, and rate the job when it's done. The relationship stays between you and the shop you chose.

Your community

Ride logging, group rides and events near you, and a forum organised by bike model, where verified local shops can mark the reply that actually answers the question.

How it works

Both ends of the same job

The rider and the shop are looking at the same ticket. That's the whole idea.

If you ride
Your bike goes in, and you stop wondering

  1. Ask your shop for a slot

Pick the bike from your garage, say what's wrong, choose a day. The shop accepts it — nothing lands on their board until they do.

  2. Watch it move

Received, waiting on a part, in progress, done. You can see which one it's on without ringing up to ask.

  3. It stays on the bike's record

What was done, and when, kept against that specific bike — so next year you aren't guessing when the chain was last replaced.

  4. Then go ride

Log the miles in PEDAL, join a group ride, and ask the forum about the exact model you own.

If you run a shop
One board instead of a whiteboard and a phone

  1. Requests arrive as requests

You accept or decline. Your board only fills with work you have actually taken on.

  2. Drag it through the stages

Every ticket, every stage, one screen. The rider sees the stage change without you telling them.

  3. Close it out with the work on record

What you did stays attached to that bike, so the next time it comes in you can see its history instead of asking.

  4. Bring them back

See who has gone quiet, send them a promotion, post an event. To your own customers, not a marketplace's.

For riders

  • Rate a shop after the work is done
  • Read the bike forum

Rider Plus

  • Group rides & events near you
  • Post in the bike forum — ask about your exact model
  • Friends, shared ride stats and mileage leaderboards
Community

Ask someone who owns the same bike

Threads are organised by bike model, not by vague categories. Ask about your 2022 Pedego Interceptor and it reaches the people who own one — including verified local shops, who can mark the reply that actually answers the question.

Model hubs

Every thread sits under a specific make and model, so the answers come from people with the same components in front of them.

Verified shops

Shops on Cycologist post with a badge, and can endorse the reply that's actually correct — so the good answer rises instead of the loudest one.

Rides and events

Group rides and shop events show up near you. Log your own miles in PEDAL and compare them with friends.

For shops

Cycologist for Shops

The service board, the bookings and the customer history in one place — and your first four months are free.

  • Kanban board — every ticket, every stage, one screen
  • Booking intake — riders request, you accept, it becomes a ticket
  • Analytics — turnaround time, volume, repeat and dormant customers
  • Engage — promotions and events to your own customer list
  • Verified shop badge in the rider community

Four months free, then $40 a month — flat, no per-ticket fee and no cut of your repair revenue. A shop's revenue is their own; we're a tool they pay for, not a middleman taking a slice.

Questions

Do I need my shop to be on Cycologist to use it?

For booking and tracking a repair, yes — that half only works if the shop is on the other end of it. Everything else (your garage, ride logging, the forum, group rides) works regardless. If your shop isn't on here, tell them, or tell us and we'll talk to them.

Is Rider Plus really free?

Yes, and there's no card and no trial timer. We'd rather have riders using it than $5 from a handful of them. If that changes we'll give plenty of notice, and nothing you've logged goes anywhere.

Does the shop see my rides?

No. A shop sees what it needs to do the work — your name, how to reach you, the bike, and what you wrote on the request. Your rides, your friends and any other shop you use are not visible to them.

Does tracking a ride drain my battery?

It uses GPS while a ride is recording, which costs battery the same way any ride tracker does. Outside of that we don't touch your location at all — not in the background, not ever.

What does a shop actually pay?

Your first four months are free, then it's $40 a month — flat, not per ticket and not a percentage of the repair. A shop's revenue is their own; we're a tool they pay for, not a middleman taking a cut. There's no card needed to start, and nobody gets billed without hearing from us first. See pricing for the detail.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. iOS first, Android after. If you're on Android and want it, say so — it moves up the list the more people ask.

How do I delete my account?

Delete it in the app: Profile → Delete Account (shop staff: Switch to Rider View first). That removes your profile, bikes, rides and community posts. You can also email support@cycologist.bike from the address on the account if you cannot use the in-app flow. See support.

Built around the shop down the road

Not a marketplace, not a lead-generation fee, not a cut of anybody's repair. Just riders and the shops that keep them running.
